Recently unveiled, the Acura Integra is already facing a big challenge: it is making its racing début on the well-known Pikes Peak race track. Since it’s the 100th anniversary of the race, it’s an event of great significance!

Learn more about its mechanics, the Pikes Peak race and the 2023 Acura Integra production model.

New Acura Integra: Race-Ready Mechanics

At the heart of the car, Acura has not changed the engine, a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder developing 200 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. To optimize its performance for racing, the new Acura Integra relies on a few effective modifications, including:

  • Improved brakes
  • A new suspension
  • HPD differential
  • Lighter 18-inch wheels
  • Pirelli tires

At the rear, you’ll also notice larger exhaust tips. For the rest, Acura intends to show off the performance capabilities of the 2023 Acura Integra’s standard equipment. During the climb, driver Paul Hubers will be driving the Integra.

Note that the production model will be available with the 200-horsepower engine, but that the manual transmission is an option. Those who are not proficient in manual driving will also be able to enjoy the car with the standard CVT transmission. According to Ron Sessions, expert for J.D. Power:

“The CVT version [...] was nearly as fun as the manual one, offering crisp response and a step-shift-like feel.”

In addition, the integrated dynamic system allows for a variety of driving pleasures by adjusting the driving parameters. So, you can choose between Comfort, Normal and Sport modes.

Pike Peaks International Hill Climb: A 14,115-Foot Climb!

The Pike Peaks International Hill Climb measures the performance of race cars on a 14,115-foot climb, or about 4.3 km in altitude! 156 turns await the drivers on this track that is 19.93 km long. This is a race that has been held since 1916, with the exception of the war years.

This is not the first time that Acura vehicles compete in this hill climb: this is its 12th consecutive year. Furthermore, the brand has earned 25 podium finishes, including 12 first-place finishes and several records!

In addition to the Acura Integra, the TLX and the remarkable high-powered NSX will be on hand. Stay tuned for the brand’s performance!

Acura Integra Specs: A Slightly Changed Interior

Interior of Acura Integra Specs

Of course, since this is a race-prepared edition, the interior has been adapted accordingly. There are sport seats designed for optimal support during turns and a sport steering wheel. Contrasting yellow trim also shows the car’s sporty side inside.

On the other hand, the automaker leaves several components of the production model intact. The large infotainment system floating in the centre of the dashboard remains the same, as does the gearshift. The automaker thus creates an amalgam of sports cars and production model, a unique design!

The latter includes a 7- or 9-inch infotainment screen, as well as a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Options also include wireless charging and a premium audio system.

You sit in standard heated front seats; the Elite A-Spec trim adds several extra features like:

  • Heated rear seats
  • Leatherette and Ultrasuede seats
  • 12-way power driver’s seat, etc.

Safe with AcuraWatch

The Acura Integra five door will also come standard with the AcuraWatch driver assistance technology package. This includes a number of features, including adaptive cruise control as well as an impact reduction braking system. Lane departure, blind spot and cross traffic alerts are also standard equipment!

All in all, the Acura Integra offers a safe and fun-to-drive car; its qualification for the Pikes Peak race is proof of that!
