After the discontinuation of the Acura hybrids, the brand was keeping its consumers in suspense about the arrival of its first electric vehicle. The manufacturer has now made the announcement: In 2024, the first electric Acura will be named ZDX!

Learn more about the history of this name, the exterior and interior designs of the car, as well as the platform and the presumed performance.

ZDX, A Name that Rises from the Ashes

Some of you may remember the Acura ZDX, which has been out of the market for almost a decade now. This SUV launched in 2007, was produced from 2010 to 2013, and featured coupé-like looks, generous power and equally sporty handling.

In fact, it was a coupé SUV ahead of its time, since the formula has been used in all sorts of ways by different manufacturers, especially the Germans! It stood out for its atypical styling that turned heads, but was left aside since it aimed at a very limited clientele.

In 2024, we will witness the rebirth of the Acura SUV name, but in a completely new form. The first electric Acura looks like it will be much more interesting for a large number of consumers.

Acura Cars: Always at the Forefront

Concept of the exterior of the new 2024 Acura ZDX

As we said, the Acura Crossover ZDX was bold in its day, and the new ZDX 2024 returns to the forefront in a very different way.

In fact, the coupé-like roof, which was detrimental to the interior space often sought after in the segment, is no longer present. Instead, the brand opts for a very straight roof! It follows the trend by displaying a contrasting black color, while distinguishing itself with a white edge.

The lines are smooth and the front displays an illuminated logo. The pentagonal shape of the Acura cars grille is recognizable with a painted grid pattern. As for the headlights, their inner part is slimmed down, lengthening into a long line.

An Acura Based on the Ultium Platform

In recent years, General Motors has developed a platform designed for flexibility and versatility, as well as for the performance and range it makes possible. Named Ultium, it is integrated into several new and upcoming models, including:

  • Chevrolet Equinox EV
  • Chevrolet Blazer EV
  • Chevrolet Silverado EV
  • GMC Hummer EV
  • Cadillac Lyriq

Now, Acura has decided to team up with the brand to offer this platform to its upcoming ZDX. The ZDX is being developed in collaboration with GM, and will be produced alongside the Cadillac Lyriq.

So, although we don’t know the technical data of the ZDX yet, there is a significant possibility that it will be similar to the Lyriq. Here are the performance figures to give you a taste of the Acura ZDX horsepower:

Characteristics

Rear-Wheel Drive

All-Wheel Drive

Battery

100 kWh Lithium-ion battery

Power

340 hp/325 lb-ft

500 hp (est.)

Range

502 km

480 km (est.)

However, Acura is currently working on developing its own electric platform. Thus, in 2026, the ZDX will have a platform signed by the Japanese brand.

Moreover, the brand does not intend to stop there: An Acura Type S is part of the plans for the ZDX!

A Futuristic Concept For The Acura Interior

Concept of the interior of the new 2024 Acura ZDX

The future Acura ZDX for sale is currently presented in concept form. So, for the time being, the automaker is showing us a cabin straight out of the future. The Acura interior should still be strongly inspired by it. According to Drew Dorian of Car and Driver:

“We expect premium interior materials and possibly some eco-friendly textiles to amp-up the ZDX’s green appeal.”

For now, we can see a three-tone interior (white, black and brown) with atypical shapes, including a steering wheel similar to a console controller. Of course, different levels of finishes are expected. Depending on the other models, we could find the versions:

  • Base
  • Technology
  • A-Spec
  • Advance
  • Type S

We also expect a complete set of infotainment and safety technologies on board, worthy of the brand. For now, the Acura car price has not been announced either: Only the images and the platform allow us to speculate!

News should be coming soon, so stay tuned to your Acura dealer in the heart of the city, near Laval and Longueuil. Acura Montréal Centre also has many new and pre-owned models to help you wait.
